Master’s Project Writing Samples
Excerpts from a comprehensive ten year management plan of a Michigan Audubon sanctuary, produced by a team of graduate students at the University of Michigan’s School of Environment and Sustainability.
Media Samples from Master’s Project
All media was produced exclusively by Nick Tsichlis using images, video, and sounds collected over a two year period at the Bernard W. Baker Sanctuary in Bellevue, Michigan.
This project involved the collection of field data, the chemical analysis of samples in a laboratory setting, and the synthesis of the resulting data into a research paper characterizing the differences between two forested ecosystems in northern Michigan.
Plant surveys were performed and other field data was recorded within a nature preserve in southwest Michigan. GIS software and other electronic resources were utilized to write a comprehensive ecological assessment of the state of the land.
Diverse Farming Systems Research Paper
Conducted scholarly research and wrote a literature review that hypothesized novel improvements to pepper maggot trap crop efficacy.
History of the American Chestnut
An exploration of the historical significance of the American Chestnut and it’s demise, and an overview of the current state of various projects aimed at reintroducing the species.

A literary review of Farming for the Long Haul: Resilience and the Lost Art of Agricultural Inventiveness by Michael Foley.
